4/5/2008 - Hello everyone,

I have signed up with my old Army buddy, Bill Hyjek, to run the Army Ten Miler again this year. This will be my and Bill's second go at this great event. We are hoping to improve our time by 10 minutes this year.

One of my other Army buddies had a friend that did a full triathlon last year - but beyond that great accomplishment, he raised $20,000 for Fisher House - this is an organization that provides free housing for family members of soldiers wounded in combat and being treated at military hospitals. Without this great organization, many families would not be able to be by the sides of their brave soldiers as they try to recover from devastating injuries.

In light of his great success, this year I have taken up a donation pool of my own. My charity of choice is the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. This great organization raises money to provide for grants and scholarships for the children and family members left behind by special operations soldiers who have been killed in combat or training accidents. These great men and women sacrifice much time away from loved ones and endure great harship and danger to be on the cutting edge of our nation's military forces.

Whether you are for or against the conflicts should not matter - these men and women have given their lives in defense of their fellow brothers and sisters on the battlefield. What it really comes down to is the brotherhood and sisterhood that these individuals felt and their belief in the buddies to their left and right. Their belief in that was so strong they gave the ultimate sacrifice.

The family members they left behind benefit greatly from this organization. You can check out their website at

http://www.specialops.org/

It is a great organization and I hope you will help me reach my goal of $15,000 between now and October 5, the date of the Army Ten Miler. You can find out more about the race at

http://www.armytenmiler.com/

Just FYI, my registration confirmation number for this year's race is 737104. For those of you that would like to see where all the money goes, there will be an itemized collection register, and a copy of the check that I can mail to anyone who would like a copy. All the interest earned from now until race day will be donated.

For all those that donate, I will put out a monthly update to keep you all apprised of where we stand in terms of funds raised.

If you would like to donate, you can do one of two things:

Make a check payable to: "Mirko Crnkovich - Army Ten Miler Fundraiser." This is the name on a special account I have set up. If you choose this option, mail your check to:

Mick Crnkovich
2115 S St NW # 3C
Washington, D.C. 20008

You can also paypal your donation to mick@crnkovich.com. Just remember, the PayPal option will eat 3% of the contribution.

Whoever donates the biggest amount will get an Army Ten Miler T-shirt. Not a whole lot, but hey, I gotta provide some incentive to break out the big bucks!

Remember, this is all for a great cause and EVERY penny will go to the Foundation.

Please forward this information to as many people you know and challenge them to match your donation.

To all my buddies still slogging it out, keep your heads down. To all my buddies connected to the community, pass it around to all your pizos and get them involved! This is for Art Lilley, James Ahearn, Keith Kline, Jeff "Toz" Toczylowski, and all the otehr special operations folks that have paid the ultimate price.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and let the giving begin!

Sincerely,

Mick

Just finished hiking all 2000-some-odd miles of the Appalaichan trail. he is out now and working with his father's construction company. Wish he was still in - he was a great leader.
